Waldorf is home of the Air Force Ground Entry Point System (GEP). See GEP System Description Page . Much of this site appears above ground, which seem unusual for it's defense related role (the nearby Potomac may be the reason). The Waldorf site also have a very small footprint (less than 2 acres). Recent reports indicated the facility is nearly empty. The site is/was the headquarters of the Southern Maryland Operations (SMO) center. SMO was a key player in the Long Lines, as well as the fallback facility for the DC area.
Nice closeup of the top of the main microwave tower showing GEP antennas.
Unknown peice of communications gear at Waldorf site. Would appreciate
any input.
