Service: Joint - Navy/Army/Air Force/Marines/Coast Guard
Nomenclature: AN/ARC-210(V)
Equipment Radio: VHF/UHF Electronic Protection Radio
Background: The AN/ARC-210(V) system is composed of a family of Weapons
Replaceable Assemblies (WRAs) which can
be configured to meet individual platform and customer requirements.
The complete list of the ARC-210 family components is
provided by a matrices for the transceivers, controls, and other ancillary
equipment. The specific WRAs in the ARC-210
complement include receiver-transmitters, remote control units, mounting
mechanisms and antennas which are chosen dependent
on the mission needs of each platform.
Specifications: Like the predecessor ARC-182 system, the members of
the ARC-210 radio family provide full AM and FM
coverage of the Military bands in the 30-400 MHz range. The three primary
members of the family are the RT-1556/1556A, the
RT-1747B/1747C, and the RT-1794(C). Standard operating features are:
Manual or MIL-STD-1553B Control

RT-1556/RT-1556A Baseline System: The baseline system View Radio provides
frequency coverage in 25kHz channels, as
well as compatibility with TSEC/KY-58 secure voice operation and existing
ADF systems. In addition, the RT-1556A provides
8.33 kHz channel spacing in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) band for
compliance with European ATC requirements. The baseline
system provides Single Channel Ground to Air Radio System (SINCGARS)
and HAVE QUICK ECCM operation for
compatibility with Army and Air Force frequency hopping radios. The
power output is 10 watts minimum in AM mode and 15
watts in FM mode. The baseline system may be controlled, as a remote
terminal, via MIL-STD-1553B control bus or controlled,
as a stand-alone system, via a separate Remote Control Unit (RCU).
The RCUs are available with red, white, blue-white, or Night
Vision Imaging System (NVIS) compatible green front panel lighting.
The weight of the RT-1556 is approximately 12.2 pounds.
RT-1747B/1747C Federated System: The federated system provides all of
the capabilities of the baseline system for
Line-of-Sight (LOS) functions. In addition, the federated system provides
a 70 MHz IF interface for connection to an external
modem. The use of an external DAMA modem and external COMSEC gives
the federated system the ability to perform DAMA
SATCOM communications in a Beyond-Line-of-Sight (BLOS) mode. The RT-1747C
provides the 8.33 kHz channel spacing in
the same manner as the RT-1556A. The weight of the RT-1747 is approximately
13.3 pounds.
RT-1794(C) DCS-2000 RT: The RT-1794(C) provides all of the basic LOS
functions provided by the baseline system. The
RT-1794(C) provides 8.33 kHz channel spacing in the same manner as
the RT-1556A. In addition, the functionality for
DAMA SATCOM BLOS capability is embedded in the RT. Further, the COMSEC
functionality required for both LOS and
BLOS is embedded in the RT. The RT-1794(C) does not provide an interface
to external COMSEC devices. The RT-1794(C)
provides digital messaging not available in any other member of the
ARC-210 family. The RT-1794(C) satisfies the requirements
for interoperability with the Automatic Carrier Landing System by incorporating
the functionality of the RT-1379, Link-4A RT.
The RT-1794(C) complies with MIL-STD-188-220A, MIL-STD-2045-47001B,
and the TIDP, re-issue 2 to provide digital
messaging using Variable Message Formats (VMF). The RT-1794(C) can
process up to 40 (user selectable) VMF messages
selected from the myriad of messages available. Due to the embedded
COMSEC, the RT-1794(C) is a Controlled Cryptographic
Item (CCI) and the accounting procedures and handling procedures are
different from the other members of the family. The
weight of the RT-1794(C) is approximately 14.4 pounds.
Relation to Similar Equipment: The various members of the ARC-210 family
can replace several "single-band" radio sets such
as ARC-51, ARC-101, ARC-159 in a single package. They also provide
both HAVE QUICK II and SINCGARS ECCM
capability in a single package radio.
